The Kidde Hardwired Smoke Detector with 9-Volt Battery Backup, Photoelectric Smoke Alarm, model p12040, is a basic smoke detector that uses photoelectric sensor technology to detect visible fire particles (associated with smoldering fires). When smoke or fire is detected, an 85-decibel alarm will sound. The Kidde Smoke Detector is powered by a 120V power source with a 9-volt, alkaline battery backup, which provides coverage all the way through a power failure. A test-hush button lets you test the battery operations in addition to silence nuisance alarms that may occur from cooking or shower steam. The Kidde Smoke Detector will chirp when it is time to replace the battery.
